Badgers Stepping up to the Plate!
The Badlands Baseball Academy not only focuses on the fundamentals of baseball, but the development of character as well. Recently the Academy met with Oyen Lodge staff to initiate player involvement in the community. The players will be volunteering their time at the lodge throughout the 2011/2012 baseball season. By giving their friendship, assistance and support, it is believed that the reward will be two-fold; the elderly will receive a little extra TLC and the players a respect for their community.
One suggestion was to create several “online” centers and have the players share their knowledge of computers and “surfing the web”. Other suggestions included assistance with exercise programs, participation in activities and general companionship. By acting as stewards of their community, pride, respect and accountability will be reinforced.
